what we look for in a trainee

Tour de France Sculpture

We expect you to have a strong academic background coupled with meaningful work experience, especially if in a commercial context, and a winning spirit. We need potential lawyers who will live up to their academic ability with a natural affinity and understanding for clients. However, lawyers do not walk through the door as the finished article and we know trainees need support and a structured training programme before they become the best they can be.

So, as well as having drive and dedication, you also need to be open to learning from people who are experts in their field. Hunger to learn from the best will hold you in good stead throughout your legal profession and help you relate to your peers.

Legal training is only the start of the story. Our clients require a legal adviser who can help them achieve their goals. This is why we devote so much time to developing business skills such as commercial awareness, management and marketing which will enable you to see issues from a client’s perspective and give them holistic, rounded advice.
