We provide world class service and advice to international clients.
The Shipping & Transport team at HBJ Gateley Wareing has been further expanded in June 2008 by the merger with London specialist transport firm Holmes Hardingham. This merger brings further expertise and strength in depth to the team in London, and will complement our strong international practice, allowing us to serve clients globally from our offices in London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dubai.
Our core business is to provide legal services to the insurance, shipping, freight transport, commodity trading, banking, and business communities throughout the world. We represent a wide range of clients including ship and yacht owners, underwriters, recovery agents, P & I Clubs, salvors, charterers, oil companies, commodity traders, inspection agencies and banks involved in domestic and international trade.
Our broad knowledge and understanding of the legal and practical complexities involved in moving goods and people within the UK and around the world mean that we can make a real difference in supporting our clients. It is not only the legal skills in this field that sets the team apart but also the practical experience gained in working with marine and transport businesses and insurers over many years.
Much of our work involves dispute resolution, but our extensive experience of litigation, arbitration and mediation also benefits clients in drafting and general advisory work. We have an unparalleled expertise in cargo claims, warehousing and goods in transit issues, and several of our lawyers are recognised as leading experts in their field by the various guides to the legal profession. Some of our lawyers are former master mariners and others have extensive yachting experience, bringing their practical knowledge and experience to their handling of marine disputes, wet and dry, for our clients. Over the years the team in both England and Scotland has been involved in many significant cases featured in the law reports.
The team advises on a complete range of shipping and transport topics including arbitration and jurisdiction disputes; charterparty disputes; goods in transit claims; ship arrest; marine casualties and accidents including oil pollution; ship sale and purchase agreements; ship and yacht finance; offshore ship registration; shipbuilding; and international commodity trading contracts.
